A convincing replacement can still be wrong
A search for a quieter replacement can return products with excellent descriptions that do not fit the required connector, voltage, or dimensions. Semantic relevance answers one part of the question, but compatibility adds constraints that cannot be inferred from a similar phrase alone.
Keep the product’s structured specifications and verified compatibility relationships beside its searchable description. The application can then distinguish discovery from eligibility.
Separate known, incompatible, and unknown
A recorded match is different from missing data. If a candidate’s connector is known to differ, the application can explain that mismatch. If a voltage specification is absent, it should not present the candidate as verified.
Preserve the source of compatibility assertions. A manufacturer specification, an internal test, and a user note may have different meanings for your application’s rules. Retrieval should retain enough context to make that distinction visible.
Compose the candidate workflow
Use AI Context Search to find products related to the user’s intent. Apply supported filters and your application’s rules to mandatory fields. Follow explicit relationships for the compatibility paths represented in the data.
Return the evidence behind a match with the candidate. This makes the result more useful than a single similarity score, especially when a user must compare tradeoffs between several otherwise relevant options.
Evaluate near misses
Build a test set containing products that sound similar but differ in one decisive requirement. Include incomplete records as well as known matches and mismatches.
